For batteries containing more than 0.0005 mass percent mercury, more than 0.002 mass percent cadmium, or more than 0.004 mass percent lead, the chemical designation of the relevant pollutant is indicated under the trash can symbol - where "Cd" stands for cadmium, "Pb" for lead, and "Hg" for mercury. You can drop off used batteries at a municipal collection point or at local retailers. The following special regulations apply to the sale of vehicle batteries: The seller is obliged according to § 10 BattG to charge a deposit of 7.50 EUR including VAT from end users if the end user does not return a used vehicle battery to the seller at the time of purchasing the new starter battery or does not present a signed/stamped disposal certificate (not older than two weeks). No deposit sticker will be issued!

When returning the old starter battery, which the dealer carries as a new battery in their product range, they are legally obligated to take back the battery and refund the deposit amount. The location for battery return will be communicated after written or electronic contact and depends on the seller. Sending used batteries by post is not permitted due to hazardous goods regulations. You can gladly drop off your used battery free of charge at many recycling centers. Upon presentation of a disposal certificate (electronically or in writing and not older than two weeks), the deposit will also be refunded.
